Year 4 would like to wish you:

恭喜发财! (Gong hei fa choi)

Happy New Year!

This year Year 4 are studying China as part of Global Citizenship.

So far we have learnt how to count to 30 and say hello and thank you. We have had a go at origami and some traditional Chinese games. For Chinese new year we made lucky red paper wallets and heard the legend of how the animals of the Chinese zodiac were chosen.

Autumn Term

In the first term of Year 4 we have had lots of fun and enjoyed working with our friends, focussing on the Tudors as our topic and visiting Braeside where we had a great time but our highlight was definitely the banquet.

Year 4 at Braeside

In P.E. we did Tudor dancing, which was great fun learning how the Tudors used to dance. We were paired up and learnt several different dances.

In Music we learnt about rhythms and patterns. We practised clapping rhythms and sang along to songs.

In Art we created Tudor monarch collages with old bits of material, ribbon and beads. We were each given a monarch to draw and collage to create and we all persevered to complete them.

In D.T. we made photo frames which we all found tricky but we all persevered and they turned out well. They were colourful and creative and we thought they were brilliant.

In R.E. we learnt about Christianity looking at symbols of Christianity. We also thought about how sometimes in life we have to wait for things and discussed the importance of patience.  We drew angels and we looked at the journey of Mary and Joseph.

In French we have continued to develop our skills. Some of the things we learnt about were the seasons and weather.

In P.S.H.C.E we thought about new beginnings and our new year group, most of us had a new teacher too.

In I.C.T we made Braeside front covers for our folder about Braeside and improved our typing and internet skills.

In Science we learnt about forces and friction and skeletons, which included different investigations.  We also learnt about different parts of the body.

We are now looking forward to the spring term.

Spring Term

In History Year 4 have been learning about Tudor Explorers which follows on from our autumn term topic of the Tudors when we went to Braeside on a residential trip. We stayed there for three days and two nights. This term we had to complete a project which was based on a famous explorer. We did some research in school but it was mainly a home learning task.

In R.E we have been learning about Judaism and how they live. We have also learned about their food rules and that they do not mix meat with dairy.

In Geography we have been learning about how the land is used in our village to help us learn about this further we went on a walk around Binfield to find out more.

In P.E we have done athletics where we practised the long jump and the triple jump with is a hop, skip and a jump and many more athletic activities. In our outdoor sessions we have been learning how to play tennis.

In Literacy we have been writing fantasy stories for younger children. We had to include adjectives and adverbs to make it more interesting and exciting.

In Maths we have revised fractions and how to write them in decimals. We have also looked at the less than and greater than symbols. And much much more!

In D.T we have made pop-up books for younger children. We had to ensure that it included three pop-up mechanisms and one of our own.

In Art we have been making mod-rock models. First we made clay models then we moved onto the real thing.

Summer Term

In Year 4 we have had lots of fun and have enjoyed everything. For most of the term we were working on our Topic about India that included our Indian Projects. Whilst working on India we learnt about different places and where different people live, we also learnt about Mahatma Gandhi probably known as the most famous Indian man.

In Art we have been making and drawing lots of different things, such as drawing our partners face in the style of Picasso. Also in Art we have made Mithila patterns which were also linked to India .

In R.E we have been learning about Hinduism which is the main religion in India , and in one of our R.E lessons we got to draw our own Mehendi and Rangoli patterns.  Mrs Sharma came in and talked to us about Hinduism and Puja.

Lots of our subjects this term have been connected to India including P.E., where we have been learning different Indian dances and Music, where we have been listening to different Indian music.

In D.T we all made torches and everyone persevered and tried their best - all the torches managed to light up!  In Literacy we made adverts about our torches, and in groups we made up a radio advert and then recorded it onto a tape player.

In Science we have been learning about different animals and the habitats that they live in.  We all went outside and had a look to see if we could find different types of plants, small animals, and to see if we could find any habitats that animals would live in. Last but not least, all term on a Thursday we have been going to Harmans Water to swim.  It was really fun and we learnt lots of new techniques.

As you can see this term has been very exciting in Year 4 and all the teachers have been really nice.  Year 4 has been a real adventure!
