Autumn Term
Review of Autumn Term - Year 6
Kingswood
In September we went to
Art
In art we did lino printing and perspective paintings. When we were lino printing, it was a stunning experience but maybe not as much for the people who got cut! We also had to think a Victorian street to paint in a perspective style some people succeeded extremely well whilst others didn’t find it so easy.
Dance/PE
In dance we did Victorian style dancing such as the waltz and the Virginia Real. We all had to dance with the other sex at one point. In PE on Fridays, we are spilt into groups including Year 5 and 6. Some of the group adults are Mr. Gooch, Mrs Munday, Miss Wheatly and Miss Whitlock.
Music
In music, we made our own music to fit a cartoon strip but first we had to draw in groups what we thought would happen in the last part. Next we had to make up some music to fit the strip. We also watched a clip from Harry Potter. First we just listened to the music, then we listened to it with the clip, then just the clip. We found out that the music was very important other wise there was no sense to the clip.
ICT
In ICT we learned about data and tables. We had to show what would we knew about tables. We drew our own tables and entered the data we had.
PSHCE
In PSHCE we wrote down what would be our nightmare school. Lots of people had very good ideas. We had to imagine what we would want our dream school to be like as well.
History
In history we learned about Queen Victoria, and the Victorian Era. On the way to
DT
During our DT lessons, we have designed and made our own moving car. This involved us working out how to use an electric motor and circuit to power it, building the chasis from wood and constructing the body and decorating it. Most of them worked incredibly well and we really enjoyed making them.

Guided reading
In guided reading each group, when it’s their turn, read on the carpet with Mrs Donaldson or Mrs. Vive. Every group choose their own book. They read out loud to the rest of the group. A favourite choice is a play or a poem book because they are interesting and fun.
Overall Term
Our overall term was very interesting, including our Christmas dinner and other trips. We would like to thank the teachers and Mrs Gare for organising such a brilliant first term in Year 6.
Spring Term
Year 6- Spring Term review
This term we have continued to have lots of fun!
At the start of the term we had a Rights and Responsibilities week, where we used the book, “One Well” and considered the need and want for water. Carrying the buckets of water (10 kg) around the playground was hard work!
R.E
We have been thinking about the community of different faith groups. We have also made posters about a chosen religion and what they do to help the local community. This fits in with oour Rights and Responsibilities work too! In the run up to Easter, we were challenged to make either an Easter garden or art work to represent the Easter story.
ICT
For our control technology unit, people from Robolab came and we made dodgems and programmed them to do different things. This accumulated in a few of us playing robot wars and was great fun!
PSCHE
In PSHCE we have been Going for Goals and have set ourselves goals such as completing our reading challenge and do well in SATS. Then we chose one of our goals and thought about barriers and stages we have to go through to achieve our goal. At the end of term, we all learned how to knit, as past of our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle campaign and part of learning about being a Global Citizen and doing things for others. We all knitted squares, which will be sewn together to make a blanket and sent to Save the Children.
Music
In Music we have studied Gamelan music and cyclic patterns, including having a go at imitating some with keyboards, xylophones and chime bars. Our teachers found this more challenging than we did!
Geography
Our topic this term was Water and Rivers. At the start of the term we focused on rivers and their features, as well as looking at the water cycle. Having thought about water conservation, we designed drought tolerant gardens. Also, we went on an excellent trip to Henley River and Rowing Museum, where we went on a river walk to spot features of rivers, conducted experiments to learn about how rivers and their drainage basins work and discovered more about the history of rivers and their changing use over time.
Sporting Events
Throughout the term we have competed in many sports. A the indoor athletics competition, the team managed to get through the 1st heat (finished 1st) and qualified to the finals. Unfortunately, two tournaments clashed and the team had to be created again, but the quickly re-structured team did manage a very creditable 7th overall. Football: The A team played a tournament at Cantley park finishing first. The following round was at the Reading Dome. The football team won that and are on their way to
We have, of course, continued to do the normal things in Maths and Literacy, as well as continuing to study science units on adaptation and interdependence and separating materials. We have started SATS revision but not long now until they’re over and done with!
All in all, a busy term!
