Welcome to Binfield School website which I hope you will find both interesting and informative.
The Governing Body was reconstituted in September 2004, when the school gained aided status and consists of a total of 18 members.
Aided status was granted by the Oxford Diocese and whilst we remain a village school, this very much strengthens our links with the Church of England. The Governors now set the Admissions Policy rather than the Local Education Authority and are also responsible for the employment of staff and the upkeep of the premises.
The make up of the Governing Body is as follows: 10 Foundation Governors appointed by the Diocese; 4 Parent Governors appointed by parent ballot; 3 Staff Governors including the Headteacher and 1 Local Authority Governor. The normal term of office is four years.
Whilst the Headteacher is responsible for the day to day running of the school, the Governing Body plays a critical role in the strategic planning and long term direction of the school. This includes many varied tasks from monitoring the budget to target setting and monitoring the curriculum.
The full Governing Body normally meets once in each half term and is divided into five sub committees: Personnel, Finance, Premises and the Environment, Pupils and Curriculum and Admissions. Each committee reports back to the full Governing Body.
Governors are encouraged to attend school events and a regular training programme helps to improve their skills.
Binfield is an excellent school which excels in all areas and it has been a privilege to have been a Governor since 1993 and Chair since 2004.
A current list of Governors is below. If you require further information or are interested in becoming a Governor, do please contact the Headteacher or myself through the school office.
