OUR MISSION
Binfield Church of England (Aided) Primary School welcomes all children from the neighbourhood whatever their beliefs. The school promotes attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility and is concerned that all children develop to their full potential academically, spiritually, socially and physically. At all times we strive to provide a caring, Christian environment of the highest quality and to lay the foundations for our children to take an active part in adult life.
OUR SCHOOL AIMS
To establish a happy, secure, well-ordered and stimulating environment where children and staff work together in an atmosphere of trust and respect and where children can learn to be tolerant, courteous and caring.
To provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which fulfils the requirements of the National and Foundation curricula so that each child can achieve their full potential.
To teach and foster the development of good working habits, an enquiring mind and self-discipline and to encourage the children to take pride in their work.
To help all children develop fully through a range of skills, knowledge and practical activities.
To involve parents and the wider community as partners in the process of the children's education.
To promote equality of opportunity for all.
HOME AND SCHOOL
Your child's education and welfare are of the utmost importance to you and us. A child will only make good progress if there is co-operation and respect between parents and school. If you are concerned about any aspect of your child's education or welfare please do not hesitate to discuss it with a member of the school staff.
Formal Parents' Evenings are held in the Autumn and Spring Terms. During the Summer term a report is sent home and the opportunity provided to discuss this further with the class teacher if you so wish.
THE FRIENDS OF BINFIELD SCHOOL (F.O.B.S)
We have a dedicated and hardworking Parents' Association called FOBS.
All parents are automatically members of the Friends of Binfield School. We have a thriving Committee who organise at least one social event each term! Do come along, they are always fun!
Funds raised from these events are used to purchase books, equipment and furnishings to improve the school's learning environment and enhance the opportunities offered to the children.

The Governors' Admission Policy is based on that of Bracknell Forest
The Governors' Admission Policy is based on that of Bracknell Forest and is as follows:
1. Children whose home address is in the designated area of the school.
2. Children who have siblings attending the school.
3. Children whose parents choose the school on denominational grounds.*
4. Children who have strong medical or social grounds for admission. *
5. Children whose parents choose the school on grounds other than those above.
If the school does not have places for all the children in one of the above categories, priority will be given to children who fulfil more than one of the admission criteria. After this, if there are still insufficient places, and no distinction can be made between the applicants, a final decision will be made on the radial distance between the home and the school.
* For further clarification of these categories for admission please contact the Headteacher.
The standard number for admission is 60.
The parents of pupils refused a place are legally entitled to appeal against the decision. Details of the appeal procedure can be obtained from the school or the Clerk to the Appeals Panel.
At the age of eleven most children transfer to Secondary Schools in the area where parents have the choice of comprehensive schools. Each year a small number of children transfer to the selective schools in Reading.
SCHOOL ORGANISATION
The school caters for children of both sexes from four plus to eleven years.
The school serves the centre of Binfield Village and some of the surrounding areas. The map of the designated area is included in this brochure. Children are admitted to school in the September of the academic year in which they are five. The closing date for applications is the Friday before the February half-term prior to the September admission.
Prospective parents are welcome to make an appointment to visit the school.
The planned admission figure for any one age group is 60 and the school is organised into single year groups of two classes per year.
COLLECTIVE WORSHIP
Collective Worship takes place every day and is conducted by either the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Rector, classteacher or guest. Harvest Festival, Easter and the Summer Leavers? Services are held in Church. We are pleased to welcome the Rector of Binfield both in the life of the School and in taking Collective Worship.
Although we hope that all children will participate in Religious Education and Collective Worship, parents do have the right to withdraw their child(ren) from both or either activity.

HOMEWORK
At Binfield C of E (Aided) Primary School we recognise the vital role parents, guardians and carers play in the partnership of education. From their first days at school children will bring home books to share the enjoyment of reading. As the children move up the school, spellings and tables are also sent home to learn regularly and the scope and variety of homework increases in accordance with that recommended by the DfES. The school's Homework Policy provides more detail and is included in the induction pack for new parents.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We offer a stimulating and enriching environment, and this includes extra-curricular activities. Current activities include Choir, Science, Netball, Football, The Environment, Maths, Chess, Computing French, Spanish and Computer club.
EDUCATIONAL VISITS
Children are regularly taken to visit places of interest to complement the work of a given term. Selection of the venue is carried out by the class teachers involved who always undertake a preliminary visit if it is a place unknown to them.
For visits of under three miles we may sometimes ask your permission for your child to travel by car in the company of another parent, who will be insured to do so. You will be asked on each occasion. For visits further afield we normally hire a coach.
In Years 4 and 6 children are invited to take part in residential visits.
SCHOOL MEALS
Most children have a school lunch or bring a packed lunch.
The school meals service offers a choice of main meal. Special dietary requirements are catered for.
SCHOOL COUNCIL & PEER MEDIATORS
Our school council and peer mediators are chosen by their peers, both roles are taken seriously by the children and are an asset to the school life.
